The Charité Maritime is continuously striving to provide support in the maritime sector, be it on board or on shore. The tasks and objectives of Charité Maritime begin where others paint the sails.. With the necessary social commitment and implementation to take the initiative with determination and not to stand idly by and close your eyes.

Apartments

are made available rent-free to destitute seafarers, their families, widows and orphans, as well as to trainees, students and interns.

Charité Maritime currently has 238 residential complexes with up to 86 apartments per residential complex in 14 locations in

Belgium, Canada, Denmark, Germany, France, Ireland, Italy, Netherlands, Norway, Portugal, Sweden, Spain and United Kingdom.

In addition, the apartments are located in the immediate vicinity of the sea or a port, which is always present with a maritime flair.

Keeping the Tradition

Since 1980, the Charité Maritime has taken on the task of caring for seafarers, nautical officers and captains as well as their wives, widows and orphans.

All employees of Charité Maritime are also convinced that they belong to an institution that cultivates good old maritime and commercial traditions in a modern environment for the benefit of those who need these benefits.

Basic tasks

Never lose sight of the fundamental tasks and objectives.

The goal today is that the Charité Maritime Two.- or provides three-room apartments in one of the 14 locations for married couples, widows and orphans, which can be used free of rent, subject to availability, timing of application and need, by retired seafarers and other needy seafarers.

Financial support

are provided for destitute seafarers, their families, widows and orphans, as well as trainees, students and interns.

The Charité Maritime takes on the financial provision of the monthly living expenses.

Likewise, widows of seafarers who do not claim an apartment from Charité Maritime are also supported through monthly payments depending on their need.

The reality

The year is 2025 and the developments of the last few years and the attitudes and practices of some shipping companies mean that seafarers are penniless and also not entitled to their pension and other allowances.

The reason for this is that shipping companies do not pay the pension contributions and social security contributions and/or only partially.

This also means that without your doing, family members are involved, who then have to live at the minimum and/or even have to and should make their living without any financial means.

Life is too short for sometime

For these reasons, the Charité Maritime is committed to providing the necessary and urgently needed living expenses on a monthly basis.

At the same time, trainees and interns, as well as students, are financially supported in such a way that the necessary costs for certificates in order to be able to work on board are covered by Charité Maritime, as well as the costs for the journey to the port of destination.

These completed internships are necessary in order to be able to provide evidence of your professional career.

TRAINING

Sound training and financial support for interns, trainees and students

The Charité Maritime works together with a number of well-known shipping companies and shipyards and can therefore provide each individual with the right job, apprenticeship or dual study program, individually and appropriately to their needs.

Training is a matter close to the heart

It is all the more important to provide the perfect basis for a successful start in professional life. Most of the trainees, interns and students come from European countries, and a few also from international countries. The task and goal is now to give everyone enough freedom to be able to develop their strengths and talents in a family and respectful working atmosphere – to support each individual and give you the opportunity to choose your professional training yourself and based on your skills and the desire to be part of something special.

FOLLOW THE THINGS THAT EXCITE YOU, BECAUSE THEY ARE YOUR DESTINY.

That’s why we also provide a furnished apartment of 60 square meters (2 rooms, kitchen, bathroom) on site free of charge for every trainee, intern and student, if desired. In this way we want to ensure that the trainees, interns and students can complete their training / dual studies / internship without any worries and without additional financial burden. At the same time, we achieve financial relief not only for the trainees, interns and students, but also for their family members.

Banquet of the seafarers

Tradition that obliges

The Charité Maritime sticks to traditions.

This also includes the annual charity event “Banquet of Seafarers”.

A banquet with tradition

The seafarers’ banquet evolved over the centuries from a meal at the annual reckoning. For the purpose of supporting and helping seafarers and their wives and families, as well as widows and orphans. The Charité Maritime organizes this banquet for seafarers, whereby the proceeds from donations are used for the activities of the Charité Maritime.

Ceremony

For centuries, the rules of the seafarers’ banquet have changed little. Women in long black evening dresses, as well as men in tails and captains in uniform, attend the banquet in the palazzo’s festively decorated hall. External guests, including business partners, are only allowed to attend once in their lives, which is why an invitation can be seen as a great honor.

Banquet of the seafarers

Tradition that has stood the test of time over centuries

The Seafarers’ Banquet is the oldest surviving annual fraternal feast in the world and traditionally serves as a link between shipping and merchants.

JOBS ON BOARD AND LAND

in the fascinating dynamic maritime shipping

The Charité Maritime also gives young people and career changers the opportunity to find a job in the fascinating, dynamic maritime shipping industry, whether
to be found on board or land.

our arrangement

is that we not only financially support the nautical and technical training, qualification and further training of crew members, as well as jobs on land, but we are also committed to giving young people and career changers the opportunity to find a job in the fascinating, dynamic maritime shipping industry, whether found on board or ashore.

Since we have high standards and want to convey well-founded knowledge to everyone, Charité Maritime also bears the costs for seminars and training courses. At the same time, we offer training that goes beyond the obligatory STCW training.

We always look beyond the box.

Because “better” is never good enough. And “the best” is a never-ending pursuit.

That is why we are proud of our foundation spirit, the force that drives us to innovate. It is this state of mind that helps us see opportunities where others see only risks. It reminds us that “good enough” is not remotely good enough. Instead, we greet every new approach with the words “What if?”. instead of “It doesn’t work”.

With this attitude and motivation, we achieve with the volunteers, as well as with the employees of the human resources department of Charité Maritime, that a suitable job can be realized for every applicant / interested party that corresponds to his or her aptitude.

STOP CHILD POVERTY

Let’s not close our eyes…

The Charité Maritime has decided to support this project out of conviction, since state and church authorities and other organizations prefer to invest in third countries and trivialize child poverty in their own country and do not take action.

Our objective

With your help, we will provide children and families as well as children living in orphanages and in a precarious economically weak situation with food and school support, implementing health care and psychological care.

Aid needs to be increased

A war in Europe and the current inflation and health emergency has exacerbated the situation of families who were already in economic difficulties before the COVID 19 pandemic:

In view of this fact and the resulting new needs, aid must be increased.
